The Mini Cooper Convertible has returned for the 2025 model year, offering a carefree driving experience perfect for open-road adventures and finally rounding out the entirety of the updated 2025 Cooper range. It’s one more run for the quirky automobile in what may be its last outing, at least with its current powertrain. With EV models rapidly supplanting their gas-engine forebears, this could just be the final combustion-engined new Mini ‘vert we ever see.
The 2025 Mini Cooper Convertible retains the iconic design features that make a Mini instantly recognizable, like the signature taillights and round headlights. There are a few tweaks, though, like the oversized hexagonal grille that helps “emphasize the model’s charismatic appearance.” It’s an updated take on the classic Mini face that’s shared across the ’25s.

A retractable soft-top is, of course, one of the main design highlights of this Mini Cooper. It’s fully automatic, and folds away completely in 18 seconds at the touch of a button. Even better? The top is operable at speeds just under 18 mph (30 km/h). The roof also incorporates a sunroof that can open up to 40 centimetres, allowing the occupants to enjoy the rush of fresh air even with the top closed. The top is offered in standard black, but there’s an optional grey Union Jack, a nod to the brand’s British roots.
Despite its small appearance, the Mini Cooper’s interior is well laid out, with enough seating space for four adults. Infotainment is concentrated chiefly within a circular 9.5-inch OLED central screen that complements the car’s bubbly exterior personality.

Unique to the Convertible is a feature in that OLED display that includes an “Always Open” timer, clocking the amount of time spent driving with the top down by the minute, subtly challenging the occupants to spend more time roofless. This feature was first introduced on the 2009 Mini Convertible, before disappearing for several model years.

Three engine options, each with a displacement of 2.0 litres and four cylinders, will be available for the Mini Cooper Convertible globally, although Canadian-market powerplants have yet to be announced. The base model, the Cooper C Convertible, makes 163 hp and 339 lb-ft of torque, accelerating from zero to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 8.2 seconds. The Mini Cooper S Convertible boasts 204 hp and 407 lb-ft of torque, enough for a 6.9-second zero-to-62-mph run. The specifications for the top-of-the-line JCW model are not yet out, but expect a power bump over the other two variants.

Customers will have a palette of twelve different paint finishes and three trim levels to pick from. The Classic Trim features a black-trimmed front grille for a simple look. A Vibrant Silver grille and a choice of 17-inch or 18-inch wheels are available with the Favoured Trim; while the JCW Trim, identifiable by gloss black accents, gives the Mini Cooper Convertible an extremely sporty appearance.
With its timeless design, playful features, and spirited performance, the 2025 Mini Cooper Convertible is a welcome addition to the new generation of Coope.
