If you were on the fence about making the switch to an EV, or looking to justify a future purchase of one, Rivian is willing to help convince you to make the jump into its R1S or R1T by appealing to your wallet. Rivian has just launched what it calls the “All-Electric Upgrade Offer.” Starting on October 31st and running through November 30th 2024, customers who buy a 2025 Rivian R1S SUV or R1T pickup can get a $3,000 discount off the purchase price.
The discount applies to the Tri Max, Dual Max, and Dual Large configurations for both R1S and R1T. Dual Standard or custom configurations aren’t eligible. Hat tip to CarBuzz for putting this on our radar. There are some stipulations to netting the discount, but they’re hardly extensive.
First, as mentioned earlier, if you want to take advantage of the offer, you’ll have to buy a Rivian R1T or R1S between Oct 13th and Nov 30th 2024 for a 2025 model. You’ll also need to take delivery of the vehicle on or before December 31st, 2024. No surprise that timing is a factor.
The gimmick comes with another requirement. To get the discount, buyers will need to show proof that they are currently leasing or own a hybrid or internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle when purchasing the Rivian. The thing is, despite the title of the discount, buyer’s don’t actually need to trade in their ICE vehicle. The proof of ownership or lease is enough.

Despite that, it would seem Rivian still thinks after some time with a brand new R1S or R1T, you’ll want to get rid of the ICE or hybrid vehicle you already own. We’re not so sure about that, but if Rivian wants to make it very easy for folks to net an extra $3,000 off on top of any tax incentives we don’t imagine in-market folks turning it down.
